SSP Doda Mumtaz Ahmad told the Excelsior that the grenade fell at an unconstructed building near the Sheep Husbandry Office and DPL Doda in Doda town where two police personnel of Quick Reaction Team (QRT) had been deployed.
One of them identified as Selection Grade Constable Zahoor Ahmad, 45, working with Special Operation Group (SOG) was injured.
The attack took place in an under-construction building outside DPL at Doda and police personnel immediately cordoned off the area and launched search operation. However, no arrests have been made so far.
“Though Doda is militancy-free, it could be the work of active Over Ground Workers (OGWs) who want to revive the militancy in the district,” a police officer stated.
The injured cop was shifted to Government Medical College hospital at Doda, where his condition is stated to be stable, police said.
A doctor of the hospital said the cop has injury in his leg.
“He is stable and out of danger,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the SSP Doda said additional police and Army personnel have been rushed to the area to take stock of the situation.
“Extra personnel of security forces have been deployed and search operation is going on asthe area has been cordoned off,” he added.
