Convention of ‘Billawar Zila Andolan’ held

Billawar, Oct 13 :  A day long convention of the Billawar Zila Andolan was held at Billawar in which besides Sarpanchs from various Panchayats, people in large number participated. Hari Chand Jalmeria Advocate was the main speaker in the convention which was presided over by Bansi Lal Gupta, Chuni Lal Mistri (Sarpanch) & Jagdev Singh (Sarpanch).
While speaking Hari Chand Jalmeria said that the hilly tehsils Billawar, Basohli and Bani of district Kathua have remained backward in development. District Kathua is large in size and population. Its headquarter is located at south east corner near Punjab and Pakistan border. Most of the hilly areas have remained neglected despite having rich potential in tourism, forest, water, agriculture and horticulture, he said.
Jalmeria further said that making another district with headquarter at Billawar and creating more tehsils of Ramkot, Macchedi and Mahanpur would provide an opportunity to the hilly areas to develop. He expressed anguish over the policy and actions of the State Government. He said when districts were created at smaller distances in the Valley but justice was not done to the people of Billawar, Bani and Basohli. He called upon the people to unite for struggle for creation of Billawar District.
A committee of 51 members was constituted with Jalmeria as its convener to carry forward struggle for creation of Billawar District. It was decided to organize a rally in support of the demand for creation of District at Billawar on November 3, 2012.
Others who addressed the convention were Bansi Lal Gupta, Chuni Lal Mistri Sarpanch of Lahri, Jagdev Singh Sarpanch of Huttar, Tarlochan Singh Sarpanch of Dewal, Master Hukam Singh, Pt. Dwarka Nath, Vinod Kumar Raeothia, Tirath Singh, Krishan Chand Sharma, Bhagat Ram, Sagar Chand and Arvind Singh.
