JAMMU, July 23: On 160th day of their ongoing hunger strike for regularization, the Contractual Lecturers (10+2), held a protest demonstration by taking  out a mock funeral procession and torched effigy of Deputy Chief Minister.
Amidst raising of slogans, the protesting Contractual Lecturers explained  that they were particularly annoyed with Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh for his insensitive attitude towards the teaching community despite himself being a teacher.
“For the last 160 days of  out hunger strike, the DyCM, who belongs to Jammu and is a teacher himself, never bothered to pay attention for  the redressal of genuine grievance of 10+2 Contractual Lecturers,” rued a female protester.
The Contractual Lecturers marched  from Press Club in the form of a rally and after passing through Jewel Chowk,  moved back to  Dogra Chowk where they torched an effigy of the Dy Chief Minister.
While addressing the protest demonstration,  Arun Bakhshi, president of  the Contractual Lecturers Association,  said that they have given  precious years of  their life to the Education Department and have now gone overage.   “As per Civil Services Special Provision Act. 2010, there is a Provision of restriction in case of appointment after 2010. The department itself is trying to violate its  own Government order / Cabinet decision in order to spoil the carriers of the Contractual Lecturers who have already been serving the department and are having experience of teaching and also gave a good results in the previous years,” he explained and warned  to further intensify the ongoing agitation if their demand is not conceded.
Meanwhile,  Mohd. Iqbal, Ishan Maini, Shafqat Hussain Shah, Rakesh Khajuria,  Surinder Kumar, Shipeel Singh, Kanchan Bala, Reva Rani, Madhvi Sharma, Saroj Bala and  Shilpa Raina began their hunger strike to continue the chain.
