JAMMU, Feb 21: Election Commissioner of India has issued guidelines for roping partner agencies in the process of electoral registration and electoral participation and in that direction to associate the educational institutions with the process of voters registration and electoral participation a meeting was convened by the Chief Electoral Officer, Umang Narula with the Principals of Government and private colleges of Jammu and Samba district here today.
The CEO emphasized that youth particularly in the age group of 18-19 studying in colleges may be motivated towards electoral system. He urged upon the principals of the colleges to nominate a Nodal Officer in their colleges for coordinating with election related activities. It was discussed that a training programme will be organized for Nodal Officers to make them aware about the process of voters registration.
It was also exhorted that YUVA (Youth United for Voters Awareness) clubs may be constituted in the colleges for bringing awareness among the students so that the enrolment of the students of the colleges can be enhanced. Some of the principals of the colleges suggested that voter registration week may be conducted during the admission of the students and assured that various activities like seminars, symposiums, debates etc will be conducted in their colleges on the lines of National Voters Day celebration for achieving the set targets.
Jt CEO, Harcharan Singh, Dy CEO Chanrdeep Singh, ACEO, Jai Kumar besides other officials of the Election Department were also present in the meeting.
