Cong leader demands plots for border people

SAMBA, Oct 20: Former Minister and senior Congress leader S Manjit Singh today urged upon the State Government to consider the demand of allotment of  five marla plots to the border villagers and reservation for them at par with the people living along the ALC.
Addressing large gathering in Vijaypur constituency today, Manjit Singh appreciated the step taken by State Cabinet for recommending package for  the  displaced persons including PoJK refugees. He claimed that it could be possible with the efforts of   AICC president Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi, PCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ex- MP Mandan Lal and all the Cabinet Ministers from the party besides other leaders.
Mr Singh said Congress was committed for the redressal of  the pending issues of the refugees. He said there is need to provide reservation to the border people of Samba, Kathua, Bishnah and R S Pura in Jammu, as provided to the ALC category. Congress leader demanded that special recruitment  drive be launched for the border youth and they should be provided quota in professional institutions.
He said thousands of farmers of the area are facing difficulty as they are unable to cultivate their fields coming under the firing range along the International Border. They should be compensated adequately. The Congress leader also urged upon the authorities to construct more bunkers in the border areas so that during firing the people could take shelter there. He said there is need of more effective response for the shifting of people to safer places as soon as border firing takes place to avoid loss of human lives.
Prominent among those who participated in the function included Sarpanch Nathu Ram, Sarpanch Sukhjinder,  Balwant Singh Nagra, Sham Lal Choudhary, Rattan Singh, Ghar Singh, Vijay Choudhary, Karnail Singh, Raghubir Singh and Yash Paul.
