Cong for 73rd Amendment in Panchayati Raj Act: Manjit

SAMBA, May 26: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh has said that Congress was committed for 73rd and 74th Amendment in the Panchayati Raj Act.
Addressing a public meeting at Bari village in Vijaypur today, the Congress leader strongly demanded to incorporate 73rd and 74th Amendment in the J&K Panchayati Raj Act in toto. He said the Congress was committed for empowerment of Panchayats and other democratic institutions at the grass root level and for this purpose, these amendments were must.
He alleged that on the behest of local sitting MLA Vijaypur some officers were not working properly and addressing public issues. He alleged that there was anger among the public over this discriminatory attitude of the legislator. The Congress leader warned that those in the administration should address the public issues displaying fair play otherwise, it would result into the agitation from other sections.
The Congress leader also condemned attack by the Naxals on Congress rally in Chattisgarh in which at least 29 people were killed, including senior party leaders.
Haji Aziz Din, Mohd Salem, Rikhi Singh, Master Som Nath, Haji Allah Rahim, Gautam Singh, Arjun Singh and Thoru Ram also spoke on the occasion.
