JAMMU, Nov 24: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has said that Back to Village (B2V) Programme of the Government is a futile exercise and an avoidable wasteful expenditure.
In a statement PCC chief spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma said that there are no takers for this campaign in the wake of severe criticism by the PRIs since the first such exercise has remained a fruitless and without any results.
He said that ground reports suggest that there is no developmental activity in the villages as there were no funds with Panchayats since constitution a year ago. However, the Govt at the Centre and State Administration in general and BJP leaders in particular issue regular statements of large flow of funds to Panchayats and massive developments at grass-root levels which add salts to the wounds of people.
PCC leader challenged Govt to send the same set of officials to the same Panchayats as per first exercise of Back to Village and then see the reaction and anger of people in most places. He said that the people face lot of hardships since the past over five years as the previous Coalition Govt especially, MLAs took over the rights of Panchayats and exercised those rights including utilising MGNREGA funds as per their own whims and choice leaving a unpaid liability of around Rs 800 crores. The Govt should first clear that liability and make pending payments to job card holders who are entitled to have it in 15 days but waiting for years.
