Srinagar, Dec 9: Normal life was affected in Kashmir today due to the strike called by separatist though transport was plying in many parts of Srinagar.
Shops, fuel stations and other business establishments remained mostly closed due to the strike. There was comparatively less public activity today because of Friday as people apprehend law and order problems after the congregational prayers.
Clashes erupted in Plan area of Bandipora district in North Kashmir after Friday congregational prayers. Stone pelting youth clashed with police and security forces fired teargas to disperse them.
Police also resorted to aerial firing to disperse the stone pelting protesters who resorted to intense stone pelting on a Police Rakshak vehicle.
Reports of clashes were also received from Tral area of Pulwama district today. Clashes erupted between protesters and the security forces near bus stand and Aabgar areas of Tral after Friday prayers.
Clashes erupted in Sopore town of Baramulla District soon after people assembled outside Jamia Masjid Sopore. Security forces fired teargas and pellets to disperse the protesters and tried to arrest Abdul Ghani Bhat who was leading the protest.
However, people in large numbers pelted bricks and stones on security forces and in response they restored to teargas shelling. Over half a dozen people have been reported injured during the clashes.
Authorities today allowed Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to offer prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar. However, he was again put under house arrest soon after he reached his residence from Jamia Masjid.
