LEH, Sept 9: The Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal today inaugurated the much awaited 2 x 225 KW Mini Hydel Plant Chamshen funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and executed by LREDA.
The Chamshen Hydel Project is already catering the electricity needs of dozens of villages along the Nubra River and from today onwards some villages on the Diskit side will also get power supply from the Chamshen Hydel project.
Earlier, CEC Wangyal also inaugurated the Tourist Facilitation Centre building at Panamik and yesterday evening CEC inaugurated Budgeted Accommodation building at Charasa constructed by Leh Development Authority followed by inauguration of 60 KV Generator Set at Charasa. Later today, CEC also inaugurated the Agriculture Extension Office at Sumoor village.
CEC Wangyal, while addressing people at different villages, said that commissioning of Chamshen Hydel Project will improve electricity supply in the region gradually. He said that with the commissioning of other mini hydel projects in Nubra region, the electricity problem will be solved permanently in coming years.
Wangyal said that 5th LAHDC, Leh despite having constraint of funds managed to compete Tourist Facilitate Centre building at Panamik and Budgeted Accommodation building at Charasa under Leh Development Authority and now with the functional of Nubra Development Authority, the tourism related infrastructural needs of Nubra region will get major flip in coming months and years.
Executive Councillor for Agriculture Phuntsog Stanzin said that the function of the Agriculture Extension Office at Sumoor- Nubra will prove instrumental in implementing the Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI) in Nubra region.
Deputy Chaiman Tsering Sandup and Councillor Tigar Rigzin Lundup highlighted major achievements attained in their respective constituencies during the last five years and apprised people about the ongoing major projects under Capex budget and SDP.
BDC Panamik, SDM Nurba/CEO NDA Sonam Norboo, Project Director LREDA Dr Tsewang Thinles, Assistant Director Tourism Leh, Jigmet Namgyal and concerned engineers and officers accompanied CEC during his visit of Nurba valley.
