CEC Attends "Mendok Rgyaspa – Purig Pi Zbyardus" Cultural and Literary Programme

KARGIL, June 06 : Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today attended the cultural and literary programme "Mendok Rgyaspa – Purig Pi Zbyardus (Revisiting the Roots)" organized by the Purig Cultural & Literary Society in collaboration with the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture & Languages (LAACL), Kargil Ladakh at the Amphitheatre, Tourist Facilitation Centre (TFC), Kargil.

The programme brought together local Purgi poets, writers, theatre artists, literary enthusiasts, and members of the public to celebrate and promote the rich linguistic, literary, and cultural heritage of the Purig region.

The event served as a platform for literary expression, cultural exchange, and discussions on preserving and promoting indigenous languages and traditions.

Speaking on the occasion, the organizers highlighted the objectives of the "Mendok Rgyaspa" programme, emphasizing the importance of reconnecting with cultural roots and strengthening the foundations of language, literature, and identity.

They stressed that preserving indigenous languages and cultural traditions is essential for safeguarding the unique heritage of the region for future generations.

Mementos were presented to distinguished guests and contributors in recognition of their efforts toward the promotion of Purgi language and culture. The organizers also appreciated the contribution of Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon in advocating for the inclusion of the Purgi language among the official languages of Ladakh.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon reflected on the long struggle and collective efforts that led to the recognition of Purgi as an official language of Ladakh.

He reiterated his commitment to continuing efforts for the promotion and preservation of other regional languages, including Balti, Dardic, Shina, and other indigenous languages.

Speaking about tourism, the CEC highlighted the growing potential of pilgrimage, spiritual, cultural, and adventure tourism in Kargil.

He stated that Kargil is steadily emerging beyond its historical image as a conflict zone and is increasingly being recognized for its rich cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and tourism opportunities. He further informed that efforts are being made to strengthen cultural linkages with other regions and countries to attract investment, promote tourism, and generate sustainable livelihood and employment opportunities for local youth.
