CDPA prez meets Secy Relief, raises concerns over closure of one-time settlement

JAMMU, Feb 8: President of Chhamb Displaced Persons’ Association (CDPA)-1971, S R Nagial today met Commissioner/ Secretary Department of Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, Nazim Zai Khan and raised concerns over closure of Central assistance scheme for one-time settlement of displaced families from Pakistan occupied J&K (PoJK) and Chhamb under Prime Minister’s Development Package-2015.
Nagial apprised the Commissioner that he had taken up the issue with the Chairman DRPSC of Home Affairs, New Delhi asking for the outcome of the decision of the Union Government after the Parliamentary Standing Committee submitted its Report Number 183 before both the Houses of Parliament on December 22, 2014 recommending Rs 30 lakh to each DP family of PoJK-1947 and Chhamb DPs of 1965 and 1971 (Camp & Non-Camp) along with various other recommendations for the welfare of the PoJK DPs.
The CDPA president said he got reply from Rajya Sabha Secretariat on December 23, 2021 that a copy of his representation has been forwarded to the Chairman, Department-related parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs but as the Ministry of Home Affairs has not given any reply to him till date, the Central assistance scheme for one-time settlement of PoJK DPs should not be closed.
He further informed that out of total 10,065 families of Chhamb DPs of 1965 and 1971 (Camp and Non-Camp), only 6621 cases have been verified so far. Nagial said out of these 6621 cases, 4029 cases are pending with DC Jammu, 1560 cases with DC Samba, 1032 with DC Kathua for disbursal of one-time relief package while 3,444 cases are still pending for verification.
In view of these facts and circumstances, Nagial requested the Commissioner to get the date of closure of the Scheme extended till the Ministry of Home Affairs replies to query of the Association and pending cases are verified by the respective designated authorities.
