JAMMU, Feb 5: Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu has welcomed the decision of the Government to defer implementation of Food Safety and Standard Act for at least six months.
President CCI Jammu, Y V Sharma in a statement also expressed gratitude to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), for taking up the issue strongly with the Government and finally succeeding in persuading Government of India, especially the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to postpone the implementation of the said Act for at least six months and appoint a select committee to review and recommend the amendments in the provisions of the said Act.
Ultimately, now the Government has issued Notification No. 1/1/Enf-1/FSSA/2012 dated Feb 4, 2014 extending the time line for seeking registration / conversion/ renewal of existing licenses up to August 4, 2014. Under the Act, the entrepreneurs and even the persons involved in processing, packing, storage, transportation, distribution etc of the food items will be liable to comply the provisions of the Act.
The CCI president claimed that Chamber had been making efforts with CAIT to get this Act deferred. Both had demanded that in-depth study was needed besides inclusion of some recommendations before going for the implementation of the this Act.
