NEW DELHI, Apr 24: On the eve of Class 12 economics paper re-test, police today questioned the CBSE official who was suspended for laxity in supervising an examination centre in outer Delhi’s Bawana area, from where the paper was leaked.
Investigators say at least two modules were involved in leaking the CBSE question papers – other than the Class 12 economics paper, the mathematics paper of Class 10 had also surfaced online before the scheduled examination.
Police busted the second module in Una town in Himachal Pradesh earlier this month. A woman was among the six persons arrested in connection with leaking the CBSE question papers.
In the Bawana module, three persons, including two teachers of a private school, were involved.
The teachers – Rishabh and Rohit – had taken photographs of the economics paper and sent it Tauqeer, who gives private tuitions. Tauqeer circulated the paper among his students about an hour before the examination commenced, police said, adding, he had received the paper via WhatsApp from Rishabh and Rohit.
Police today questioned K S Rana, who was on duty at the Bawana centre on the day of the economics exam – March 26.
DCP G Ramgopal Naik confirmed that Rana had been questioned but refused to divulge the details. Another officer said he was questioned for three hours in Shakarpur area.
“He was the centre supervisor and was questioned to clarify certain things told by the school principal during his questioning. He was asked about the papers being accessed by the accused before the scheduled time,” the officer added.
Rana was suspended over laxity in supervising the centre and an inquiry was ordered, the HRD Ministry said on April 1.
The Delhi Police has registered two cases in connection with the paper leaks. The first case related to the leak of economics paper was registered on March 27, while the other pertaining to the leak of mathematics paper was filed on March 28.
The exams for Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics papers were held on March 28 and March 26 respectively.
After reports of the leak surfaced on March 28, the CBSE announced it will re-conduct the economics exam on April 25.
The board has decided against holding a re-examination for mathematics, saying the examination was “largely an internal segment” of the school education system. (PTI)
