Srinagar, Sept 1: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the J&K Crime Branch today chargesheeted a Srinagar resident and a deceased former Patwari in a land-grabbing fraud case involving allegedly forged documents used to secure building permission from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
The chargesheet, filed before the Sub-Judge, Srinagar, stems from FIR No. 08/2016 registered under Sections 420/511, 167, 471 and 120-B RPC.
The investigation found fraudulent documentation, misrepresentation of material facts and alleged misuse of official position in an attempt to grab land.
The accused has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Ahmad Malik, a resident of Barapather, Haft Chinar, Srinagar, while the then Patwari named in the case has since died.
The Crime Branch said the allegations were substantiated during investigation and the case was closed as "Proved".
The chargesheet has now been placed before the competent court for judicial determination.
The EOW has urged the public to remain vigilant against economic fraud and report suspicious activities to the SSP, EOW Kashmir.
