SRINAGAR, June 6: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Ahmad Bukhari today asked officers of Custodian Department to improve work culture so that evacuee property is safeguarded and put to productive use across the State.
The Minister said this while chairing a meeting convened to review the functioning of the Custodian Department here.
The meeting was attended by Custodian General, Javaid Ahmad Khan, Director EDI, Mohammad Ismail Parray, Custodians of Kashmir and Jammu Divisions and Deputy Custodians of all the districts besides Waqaf Board Member, Gh. Hassan Shah.
The Minister sought details on various functions carried out by the Evacuee Department, adding that any violation or deviation from rules will be properly investigated. The Minister directed the concerned officers to submit the details within the stipulated time.
Mr. Bukhari instructed the department to prepare a departmental logo so that it is pasted on all custodian property for easy identification. He asked authorities to implement all departmental Acts in letter and spirit to protect the Custodian property.
The Minister said no laxity would be tolerated with regard to safeguarding of evacuee property and such employees will be taken to task who are found in any kind of lapse. The Deputy Custodians were directed to submit monthly statements of the property including the retrieved
Stressing the need for paradigm shift from being custodian of land to development of productive assets which will fetch revenue to the Department, the Minister directed the concerned officers to explore the possibility of creating state-of-the-art public utilities on custodian land in the State. The Minister also constituted a joint consultative committee to assess the lands/properties of the Custodian evacuee property besides suggesting the measures for its productive utility.
The committee will be headed by Director EDI and members of the Committee include Member Wakaf Board, Gh Hassan Shah, Custodian Kashmir, Custodian Jammu, Director Finance Administrative department and a local entrepreneur.
The Minister instructed the officers to submit proposals for improving departmental functioning, besides devising a mechanism to make system more transparent and effective.
