BRO at full swing

Border Roads Organisation is determined to change entire connectivity scenario of J&K by 2014-15. It will be completing projects worth 8,217 crore rupees on bridges, tunnels, culverts and roads to upgrade road connectivity in the state in accordance with the broad plan of access to northern border. Among major plans is the 592 metres long cable-stayed bridge at Basohli over Ravi River, 6.5 kilometre long tunnel from Gagangir to Sonamarg on NH1 and 13 km long Zoji La tunnel that will keep Srinagar-Leh road open round the year. By the time 4-lanning of Lakhanpur-Srinagar highway is complete and the rail connection also gets completed, we will have these three projects also brought to completion simultaneously. With that the connectivity in J&K border will mark a new and unprecedented chapter. This will usher in sea-change in the economy and life pattern of the people in the entire state besides providing employment to thousands of people.
