JAMMU, Aug 20: Bhawan Nirman Mazdoor Sangh (BNMS) demanded release of pending scholarships to the wards of construction workers.
Addressing a press conference, Ashok Choudhary, State general secretary, BNMS and Incharge Unorganised Sector has alleged that the functioning of the Labour Department has come to standstill since the present Government has taken charge.
He stated that functioning of Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has been totally stopped by the new CEO without considering the ground realities and plight of the poor workers, adding that the new CEO is passing new rules and guidelines on its own level without taking approval of the Board and has created too much discontentment among the workers.
“Government is not serious towards the welfare of the workers of private/unorganised sector as the tenure of the J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board ended in 2013 and new board has not been constituted so far and from 2015 not a single meeting of the board has been called by the Labour Minister who is the Chairman of the Board”, he added.
He further stated that the claims of the death cases are lying pending, education assistance fund has not been released so for and thousands of the education assistance cases are lying pending in all the district offices of Assistant Labour Commissioner throughout the State.
He demanded re-constitution of J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board with due representation to BNMS and other genuine Trade Unions.
“The formalities which are completed prior to April 2015 regarding registration claiming marriage assistance and education assistance should be accepted and new guidelines should be kept in abeyance till approval by the Board. Full fledged independent working of the Welfare Board be started in all the districts”, he demanded.
Choudhary appealed to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to make Independent Labour Minister for better functioning of labour welfare schemes and functioning of Labour Department.
