Bhadarwah, Jan 11: The failure of the Bhadarwah Municipal Committee (BMC) to clear snow from roads, streets and lanes took a heavy toll on the transporters, commuters and pedestrians alike as frozen roads due to sub-zero temperature has become a life threat for all.
The inhabitants complained that despite forecast of heavy snowfall, the BMC authorities failed to put the men and machinery on standby or clear the snow from roads, streets, lanes and by-lanes due to which they have become extremely dangerous to manoeuvre on as the temperature in Bhadarwah Valley has hit all time low and has been recoded – 10 since last two days.
Vendors, shopkeepers and transporters of Bhadarwah, beside residents of Seri Bazaar, Jaie Road, Sadar Bazaar and other areas coming under the jurisdiction of Bhadarwah Municipal Committee said that the authorities are yet to completely clear the roads of these areas.
They further said that even after directions from ADC Bhadarwah, BMC failed to sprinkle salt on the road for smooth running of traffic.
President Transport Union Bhadarwah, Mohsin Ganai said that after requesting BMC authorities several times, we started to sprinkle salt on the slippery road by contributing money.
It is notable that Bhadarwah recorded the lowest temperature of -10.3 degree Celsius, which is record in last 16 years, due to which it became extremely difficult on dangerously slippery roads to manoeuvre on.
When contacted ADC Bhadarwah Dr Rajinder Kumar Khajuria said that due to minus temperature, he has already directed BMC to sprinkle salt on the slippery road and sloppy areas especially at Seri Bazaar, Lakshmi Narayan Chowk, Pasri Adda, Kotli Bus Stand and other areas falling under BMC.
