JAMMU, Oct 6: A local BJP worker escaped a bid on life but his PSO was martyred in the attack in Ganderbal district this evening in which a militant was also killed while three militants were trapped in a village by the security forces in Shopian district of South Kashmir.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar, told Excelsior that a local BJP worker escaped bid on his life when militants fired at him at Nunar in Ganderbal this evening.
However, BJP leader’s PSO constable Altaf Hussain was critically injured in the attack. He was shifted to SKIMS Soura for treatment but he succumbed. He was from Eidgah area of Srinagar.
The IGP lauded him for his bravery for fighting and killing one militant who attacked the BJP leader. “He set an example of bravery and professionalism. We are proud of him”, he said.
Earlier a militant was killed after he attacked house of a BJP worker at Nunar Ganderbal in Central Kashmir. He has been identified as Shabir Ahmad of Pulwama district in South Kashmir.
Kumar said that the BJP political worker was returning to safe cluster that is created in Kangan for them. He said that he had spent day with family and while returning to Kangan he was attacked but it was repulsed.
Senior police and security force officials reached the spot and a massive search operation was launched to nab the accomplice of the attacker.
Meanwhile, security forces trapped three militants in a village in Shopian district of South Kashmir this evening after specific input about their presence.
Acting on a specific information about the presence of militants in Sugan area of Shopian district, a joint operation was launched by Police, Army and CRPF against the group of militants.
As the security forces zeroed in on a suspected spot, the hiding militants opened indiscriminate firing triggering a gunfight.
The militants were asked to surrender but they refused. The firing, however, stopped and the security forces tightened cordon around the village and put the operation on hold for the night.
However, lights were installed in view of the darkness and the cordon was further tightened to ensure militants don’t flee.
