CHANDIGARH, May 17: The BJP will launch a nationwide ‘Jail Bharo’ agitation on May 27 to press for the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the wake of ‘rampant corruption and several scams’ which came to the fore under the UPA regime.
This was stated by BJP national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao while addressing a press conference here today.
He said the UPA government had adjourned Parliament before the scheduled end of the session but the BJP would not let the debate on corruption and scams die so easily.
He said the BJP had only one objective–to get the country free of corruption. He said the BJP would also take the like-minded parties on board while waging a war against corruption.
Alleging that former Railway Minister Pawan Bansal had sullied the name of the City Beautiful, Mr Rao said a fair and independent probe was not possible against him as long as Dr Singh continued as Prime Minister of the country.
He said Dr Singh had also failed on the economic front despite being an economist. Small countries like Mauritius were giving a challenge to India in the field of economy which was the result of the misgovernance by the UPA government, he alleged.
