JAMMU, May 16: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial president for Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta, today lashed out at the BJP for what he termed as a “deliberate and dangerous campaign” to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu region by raking up communal divide to destabilise the elected Government led by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.
While interacting a deputation from Sidhra and Rangura headed by Ch Rehmat Ali former BDC Chairman and Shama Akther former Corporator at party’s provincial headquarters, Jammu, Gupta said the BJP, having been politically rejected by the people and sensing its rapidly shrinking ground in Jammu and Kashmir, has resorted to “communal polarisation, misinformation and fear-mongering” to stay politically relevant.
“The BJP cannot digest the growing popularity and people-centric governance of the Omar Abdullah-led Government. Frustrated by its political isolation, the party is now attempting to divide society on communal lines and disrupt the peace and progress being witnessed across Jammu and Kashmir,” Gupta said.
He urged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to take serious note of the “systematic propaganda and mischief” being spread by BJP leaders and their affiliates. “Since law and order, police and home affairs directly fall under the LG administration, it becomes its constitutional responsibility to curb such divisive politics that undermine the secular and pluralistic ethos of the country, particularly Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
Gupta said no amount of BJP’s “communal theatrics and propaganda” can derail the developmental momentum and welfare initiatives being undertaken by the Omar Abdullah Government, as people are firmly standing with the National Conference.
“The National Conference will never allow the BJP to fulfill its malicious agenda of dividing people for electoral gains. The people of J&K know who sacrificed lives for the unity and harmony of the country. They remember the contributions and sacrifices of National Conference leaders/ workers through decades of turmoil,” Gupta asserted.
