While replying to the questions of the reporters here about BJP’s poster portraying Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as a ‘new age Ravana, Mehbooba said any person who would have put out a similar poster showing a BJP leader would have been “jailed immediately without any case or investigation” and would also be denied bail.
“It shows BJP’s frustration. They are totally frustrated with the INDIA alliance. They know the tactics they played, including the divide between Hindus and Muslims, have failed”, she added.
Hitting out at the BJP for targeting Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to promote Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals in the country, Mufti expressed concern over the increase in people with Godse-like ideology in recent years. “One person is working hard in this country against the ideology of Godse. They are targeting him. You (BJP) produced the army of Godse. He tries to become Gandhi. We could not produce Gandhi in the last 70 to 75 years, but they produced a number of Godses in the last 10 years,” Mufti asserted.
Mufti emphasized the importance of practising Vasudev Kutumbakam — the belief that the entire world is one family — which she felt the BJP fell short of in their actions. “They are the people who swear in the name of Sanatan Dharma. Do they know what Sanatam Dharma is? Is this what Sanatam Dharma teaches us, to portray your opponent as Ravan?” the PDP chief asked.
“Sanatan Dharma teaches us Vasudev Kutumbakam. Who are they treating as a family?”, she questioned.
She accused the BJP of imposing several burdens on Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh through measures such as toll taxes, smart meters and property taxes. She decried the outsourcing of contracts, which she argued has adversely affected local businesses.
PDP president criticised the Chief Secretary over his statement that “undeserving candidates were given government jobs in J&K through illegal and backdoor means”, and said if this is true the administration should get it probed.
“I feel he (Chief Secy) should be ashamed of saying this. If this is true, let him take action. They cannot give jobs to educated unemployed youth but instead remove people from jobs,” Mufti told reporters, reacting to Mehta’s remarks.
“I feel ashamed to say that over 2.50 lakh undeserving candidates were given government jobs in J&K through illegal and backdoor means.” She called upon the Chief Secretary to publicly disclose the individuals responsible for such appointments and conduct a probe.
“If such a thing is there, he should reveal who has done this. Officers are involved in the backdoor appointments. The ED, CBI and NIA are with them. Let them take action against those responsible for it,” she asked.
Mufti raised questions about the recruitment processes under the tenure of current administration, for the posts of SIs , JEs and Finance Assistants in Finance Department. She alleged certain blacklisted companies were involved in recruitment exercise. “The Chief Secretary should reply to our questions first. She also pointed to the allegations of Ashok Parmer, who claimed a staggering Rs 13,000 crore `scam’ in Jal Shakti Department. She insisted the Chief Secretary to address these accusations.
