JAMMU, Oct 12: Sunil Prajapati, president BJP OBC Morcha today said that the process for conduct of Municipal and Panchayat elections hasn’t been halted and will resume once the Acts to provide reservation to OBCs in both the bodies are amended.
Talking to reporters here, today he said however, the reservation roster will have to be prepared afresh for both the bodies as presently only Women, Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes and (STs) are entitled to the quota in Municipalities and Panchayats.
National secretary, BJP OBC Morcha, Rashpaul Verma, vice president J&K, BJP OBC Morcha, Suresh Salgotra, Morcha district president, Jammu, Ashok Salgotra and Morcha Mandal president, Rakesh Mandal were also present on the press conference.
Sunil Prajapati on the behalf BJP OBC Morcha and whole OBC Samaj of Jammu Kashmir complimented the State BJP leadership for raising the issues of the OBCs with Jammu Kashmir Government.
Demanding 27 percent reservation in Panchayat, Municipal Corporations and Municipal Committees, he said that women have been provided 33 per cent reservation in Municipalities and Panchayats, SCs and STs get quota based on their population in the two bodies. He stressed that the similar process must also be followed for granting reservation to OBCs.
Sunil Prajapati, said the Government has proposed an amendment in Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation, Municipalities and Panchayati Raj Acts to provide reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the Urban Local Bodies (ULBS) Panchayats. Elections to the two bodies will be held only after providing reservation to the OBCs. He however demanded that the OBCs be given benefit of 27 per cent reservations.
