JAMMU, Aug 14: A delegation of BJP Kashmir Displaced district headed by MLC, G L Raina called on Chief Election Commissioner of India at New Delhi regarding the civic polls in the State for which the Chief Electoral Officer, J&K has issued the notification that Kashmiri migrants residing at Jammu and other parts of the country, have to cast their vote for wards of their respective territorial constituencies in Kashmir.
BJP in a handout issued here, today said that the president of the party’s Displaced District, Chand Ji Bhat informed CEC that displaced people are living in Municipal limits of Jammu for 28 years now and they are paying the dues to JMC and also availing its services and facilities.
G L Raina informed the CEC that by not allowing the displaced people to vote in Jammu is a violation of relevant clause of J&K Peoples Representative Act 1957 Section (15) the J&K Panchayat Raj Act 1989 and the J&K Municipal Corporation Act 2000.
The other issues discussed with ECI included that no computer or EPIC printing machine has been provided at Shanker Building Jammu which delays the output of work further. Besides, it brought into the notice of CEC that there is shortage of staff at Shanker Building which houses the migrant election office, demanded posting of competent staff for e-filling complaints, claims and objections, providing of computer with internet connections, deletion of M Forms in elections and ensuring meaningful participation of the community in Panchayat and ULB elections.
Meanwhile the Durga Nagar Welfare Community has also made an appeal to Governor to ensure that the migrants from Valley putting up in various wards of Jammu since 1990 be allowed to cast their vote in Municipal elections so for development of their respective colonies.
Roshan Lal Raina president of the Committee said the deletion of the names of the migrants from voter lists of Jammu Municipal Corporation is a part of conspiracy against the displaced people.
