JAMMU, Apr 20: Bari Brahamana Industries Association (BBIA) has supported the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to revisit cross LoC trade policy in Jammu and Kashmir.
A meeting of the members of BBIA was held today under the chairmanship of Lalit Mahajan in the presence of Suresh Mahajan, senior vice president, Varun Singla vice president, Ajay Langer general secretary, Vivek Singhal secretary, Viraaj Malhotra treasurer BBIA to discuss the current scenario of cross LoC trade in the light of suspension by Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India.
While appreciating the Govt decision to suspend the LoC trade for the time being to revisit the present Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to plug the loop holes in respect of the trade was being misused by some elements from the neighbouring country, the members raised their serious concern in respect of non- inclusion of majority of Industrial products being manufactured by MSME Sector of J&K in the previous SOP resulting great resentment amongst the Industrial fraternity.
It is worthwhile to mention here that as per the previous SOP, only those items were included for trade which were produced or manufactured in the both parts of the State but the majority of the items traded since 2008 till date were not produced nor manufactured in the State which we termed as a clear violation of previous SOP by the implementing agencies.
MSME sector of the State is suffering due to locational disadvantages and shallow market avenues as it is difficult for them to sell their products in the neighbouring states as well as in the neighboring countries and if an opportunity is provided to the Unit holders to sell their products through cross LoC trade, it will boost the confidence of the Industrial units and overall economic development of the State.
BBIA claimed that at present there is an ample scope for the trading of industrial goods being manufactured by the MSME sector through cross LoC trade which includes Ferrous & Non Ferrous products, Pharma & Health care products, Food products, Packaging material, pesticides, building material, paint hardware, Electrical goods, garments, blankets and carpets, IT products, Engineering goods, Stationery items, Cattle/ Poultry feed, Chemicals and other allied products and the Trade permits should be given to the Registered Industrial Units on the basis of Permanent registration certificate of Industrial units through deemed trade transactions or through the traders with the Banking facilities instead of barter trade to streamline the Financial transactions.
