Srinagar, Aug 3: Army today killed 7 militants or Pakistani troops as it foiled a Border Action Team (BAT) action by Pakistan in Keran sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district while two militants were shot dead in an encounter in Sopore area.
“In the last 36 hours, number of attempts to disrupt the peace and target the Amarnath Yatra were made in Kashmir. A BAT attempt was made on one of the forward posts in Keran sector which was foiled by alert troops resulting in the killing of five to seven Pak regulars/militants,” Srinagar based Defence Ministry spok-esman Rajesh Kalia said here.
“In the Valley, four hardcore JeM terrorists were neutralized. A sinper rifle, IED and mine with Pak marking were recovered. Clearly it indicates Pakistan complicity in terror activities”, he said.

There is tension along the LoC in Kashmir as Army says that they have noticed increased activity of militants at launch pads. They said that several infiltration attempts have been foiled and troops are on heightened alert.
Army chief General Bipin Rawat also visited forward areas two days ago and reviewed the situation along the LoC and preparedness of the Counter-Militancy Infiltration Grid.
And in the meantime, two militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad were killed in a gun battle in North Kashmir’s Sopore area.
A joint team of Army’s 22RR, SOG and CRPF launched cordon and search operation in Malmaponpora area of Sopore early today after specific inputs about presence of militants.

“Both the killed terrorists as per police records were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit JeM and were wanted by law for their complicity in terror crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities”, a police spokesman said.
“According to police records, Khalid was part of groups involved in planning & executing series of terror attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities. Several terror crime cases were registered against him”, the spokesman added.
“Similarly Umar Shahbaz was also involved in terror crimes. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes”, police said.
