Basohli as ‘Heritage’ Town

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Declare Basohli as ‘Heritage’ town’ DE Mar 10.
While addressing a rally, BJP party candidate for Kathua-Udhampur Lok Sabha seat Dr Jitendra Singh has highlighted the issue of making Basohli as ‘Heritage’ Town. It is indeed an important issue but the successive State Governments have never paid any attention to Bani Basohli area. Basohli which is famous for its paintings and was once an important trade centre has lost its sheen and has fallen on bad days.
The town has  seen no worthwhile development in terms of road network, Public Health Centres (PHCs), schools, and other public offices. Basohli is now-a-days considered a neglected backward and forgotten region.
The region despite having tremendous scope for  tourism is being neglected. The scenic places in and around are not given any publicity either through electronic or print media. The unemployment among youth of the area is also on the increase.
In case the town is declared as ‘Heritage’ town, Basohli will to a greater extent regain its pristine glory.
Yours etc….
Rajinder Singh, Nagrota Gujroo
