JAMMU, Oct 20: Yet another high-voltage drama rocked the Jammu University this evening after the JU authorities refused to allow hostel entry to a female boarder, who along with two other students, was suspended from the university for alleged ruckus on the campus last week.
Agitated over denial of entry, the girl student, namely Madhu Sharma, sat on dharna on the hostel gate. She was soon joined by a few other boarders of the girls hostel and ABVP activists, who raised slogans against the JU authorities.
The protest dharna continued for around four hours till the DIG Jammu-Kathua Range Ashkoor Wani, personally reached the spot and got the issue resolved by asking JU authorities to allow the girl student continue her stay in the hostel.
Meanwhile, continuing their protest against suspension of three students, ABVP activists in Jammu University and Government College for Women, Parade, today held separate demonstrations after boycotting their classes.
They raised slogans against the JU administration and demanded immediate revocation of suspension of three students.
As the suspended students were not allowed to enter the campus today, the ABVP activist assembled outside the main gate and staged a sit-in there. The protesting students were also addressed by senior ABVP activists, who vowed to continue the struggle till revocation of the suspension.
At GCW Parade, a number of girl students, affiliated to ABVP, boycotted their classes in the morning and held a demonstration in front of the College gate. They also blocked the road and disrupted traffic movement for some time.
The protesting students, led by Naina Dogra and Varsha Gupta, also tried to march towards Jammu University but the female cops, deployed there, did not allow them to move further. After around half an hour protest, the agitating students dispersed.
Meanwhile, activists of NSF also held a protest dharna outside the Raj Bhawan, here today, alleging several irregularities in Jammu University.
Led by JJSF district president Rishikesh Rana, the NSF activists raised slogans against JU administration and the Vice-Chancellor. They alleged that day-to-day working of the university was badly suffering on account of administrative failure for the last few months.
The NSF demanded intervention of the Governor to streamline the JU affairs.
