JAMMU, Dec 4: Principal Sessions Judge Samba MA Chowdhary has rejected the bail application of Rash Pal Singh, son of Pritam Singh of Upper Gadi Garh, who was nabbed with heroin on October 24, 2019.
After hearing Advocate Ashwani Khajuria for the applicant whereas Public Prosecutor Jawad Khawaja for the State, the court observed, “quantity of contraband recovered from the applicant falls in intermediate quantity, therefore bar of Section 37 NDPS Act is not applicable to the instant case”.
“The offence of which the applicant has been accused carries punishment of 10 years imprisonment and fine of Rs 1 lakh. Given to the severity of punishment, the offence is serious in nature. Otherwise also the menace of trade and use of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substance has become alarming to society in general and young generation in particular”, the court further said, adding “this menace requires to be curbed with a heavy hand as it is eating into vitals of the polity”.
