Azad discusses situation with PM

NEW DELHI, Aug 10: Concerned over widespread violence in Kishtwar district, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Azad today discussed the prevailing situation with the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh.
Mr Azad, while elaborating the Prime Minister about the situation prevailing in Kishtwar district and its fall out in other parts of the Jammu region, stressed that all possible steps should be taken to defuse the situation and restore peace.
The Union Minister also appealed the Prime Minister to depute additional forces, if required, for restoration of law and order in the violence affected areas of the State. He also stressed that all possible steps should be taken to ensure check on those spreading rumors.
Meanwhile, one-day convention of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, which was scheduled to be held tomorrow, has been postponed due to the prevailing situation.
Mr Azad and Congress national general secretary, Ambika Soni, who is also incharge of Jammu and Kashmir affairs, were scheduled to address the maiden convention after the re-appointment of JKPCC chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz. The last convention of the party was held on May 18-19 in Kashmir last year.
