JAMMU, Aug 27: Holding Pakistan responsible for the recent unabated rise in ceasefire violations on the International border and Line of Control, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad strongly condemned Pakistan’s continued attempts to disturb tranquility and peace on the borders of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Jammu District.
Referring to the statement of DG BSF, which appeared in media yesterday describing current firing on the borders as “heaviest since 1971 war”, Azad said it is a matter of grave concern and Pakistan should be held squarely responsible for heightened ceasefire violations.
Azad said that the fresh spate of ceasefire violations on the borders going on for the last two months has led to loss of numerous precious lives and caused injuries to many more, in addition, to the collateral damage of huge quantum.
“Life of lacs of people living in the border belt has become miserable for which Pakistan is to be condemned in unequivocal terms”, he said adding that Pakistani forces have crossed all limits this time and it is high time to send a clear message to put an end to its misadventures.
Azad alleged that NDA Government has a misconceived policy towards Pakistan which is solely driven by electoral calculations without any regard to national interest and foreign policy priorities.
Maintaining that NDA’s flip flops diplomacy with regard to Pakistan has created an atmosphere of uncertainty leading to a weakened and ineffective response to increased aggressive posturing of enemy on the borders, Azad said that NDA Government should abandon its rhetorics aimed only at public consumption and adopt a more imaginative and coherent policy to deal with the increasing hostility of Pakistan.
“Pakistan has got emboldened to intensify its cross border incursions only due to impractical and misconceived approach of NDA Government and as a consequence there is a heightened tension along the border causing unprecedented hardships to our people on the borders”, he said.
