AWAJ rechristened as AAWAJ

JAMMU, May 3: Artists Welfare Association Jammu (AWAJ) working for the promotion and welfare of the artists was rechristened as All Artists Welfare Association Jammu (AAWAJ).
This was stated in a handout issued by the Association here today. It said a meeting of the Association was held to make its role broad based so that the Association will not remain confined to theatre and television artists only but the radio and TV approved artists and those related to performing arts like music, dance, drama etc will also come into its purview.
It was also decided that the Association will hold elections after the completion of membership drive. The main objective of broad basing the Association was to promote various languages and artists as well.
The Association will take the problems and cause of the artists with concerned departments and put forth the disparities in remunerations rules, disparity in allocation of serials and seek justice for all artists on the basis of their performance and talent.
The Association will also expedite its struggle for renovation of Abhinav Theatre  which is non functional for over last three years due to which the artists fraternity is suffering a lot.
The prominent artists who attended the meeting included Dr Kamal Sharma, Er Vijay Sharma, Dr Sudhir Mahajan, Mushtaq Kak, Akram Khan, Ravinder Sharma, Umesh Singh, RakeshAnand, Sunil Sharma, Ramesh Kumar, Basant Vijogi, Ms Sema Devi, Urja Salathia, Kulbir Kour, Rajat Gupta, Sunil Sharma and Sahil Jostra. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Sudhir Mahajan.
