Attempt to steal truck foiled in Hiranagar

KATHUA, Sept 1: Police in Hiranagar foiled an attempt to steal a truck in the Chagda area after the vehicle, bearing Registration Number JK02B L4869, was allegedly stolen from Digiana, Jammu, and was being taken towards Punjab.

According to information, the truck was reportedly stolen at around 9 pm on Monday from the Digiana area of Jammu. After learning about the theft, the truck owner immediately informed the police and left for Lakhanpur from Jammu in his car in an effort to trace the vehicle.

During the night, when the truck reached near Hiranagar, the owner reportedly spotted the vehicle at a police checkpoint and attempted to stop it after identifying it as his truck. However, instead of stopping, the driver allegedly fled towards the border area of Hiranagar.

While trying to escape, the driver lost control of the truck at around 1:30 am with the result the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in the Chagda area. Taking advantage of the darkness, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot.

The timely intervention and alertness of the truck owner and police helped prevent the stolen vehicle from being taken out of the area. Police have initiated further investigation to identify and apprehend the accused involved in the theft.
