Asstt Prof assault row: GDC staff continues strike, police on job to nab accused

DODA, May 24: The staff members of Government Degree College (GDC) continued their pen down strike for the third consecutive day in protest against the assault on Assistant Professor by the father of a girl student during BA Part II examination.
Due to strike hundreds of students and their parents suffered as the admission of BA, BSc and BCA Part Ist is going on.
Moreover, external practical examination of BSc Part I have also been postponed due to strike.
As reported, Head of the Department (HoD) Physics, Government Degree College (GDC), Asstt Prof Bashir Ahmed was assaulted by father of a girl student identified as Iqbal Tak of Bhaderwah on May 22 for not allowing mass-copying in the BA Part II examination.
After assaulting the Asstt Prof, the culprit fled from the spot and the incident was reported to police.
A case under Section 353 and 506 RPC has been registered at police station Doda against the culprits, but was at large since then, which has created great resentment among the faculty members of the college, who along with Principal of the institution went on pen-down strike demanding immediate arrest of the culprits and security cover to the staff members.
The protesting staff warned to continue their protest till the arrest of the culprits.
When contacted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Mohammad Sharief Chouhan told Excelsior that “we have got the CCTV footage in which the accused was seen assaulting the Asstt Professor”.
“We are conducting raids at various locations and the accused will be behind the bars soon”, SSP claimed.
Meanwhile, faculty members of GDC Bhaderwah held a meeting under the chairmanship of Prof Basharat Iqbal and extended full support to the ongoing strike of GDC Doda staff.
While speaking, Prof Iqbal demanded immediate action against the culprit and also urged Controller of Examination, University of Jammu to intervene in the matter and ensure safety and security of the Superintendents and supervisory staff of all the affiliated colleges.
It was also resolved that if action as desired was not initiated, a total boycott of the ensuing and forthcoming examination will be initiated.
