Assam Rifles seize 1,200 detonators in Aizawl, one held

AIZWAL, May 17: In a major recovery operation, the Assam Rifles seized 1,200 detonators from Durtlang area in Aizawl on Saturday and apprehended one individual along with a vehicle used for transporting the explosive materials, the paramilitary force said on Sunday.

According to official sources, the operation was launched on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of explosive materials in the area. Acting swiftly on the information received, troops of the Assam Rifles conducted vehicle interception and checking operations at the suspected location.

During the search, the security personnel recovered 1,200 detonators concealed inside the driver’s seat of the intercepted vehicle. The operation was carried out with extreme caution considering the sensitive and hazardous nature of the recovered items.

The apprehended individual, along with the seized detonators and the vehicle, was later handed over to Bawngkawn Police Station for further investigation and legal action.

Officials said the successful recovery reflects the continued vigilance and operational preparedness of the Assam Rifles in maintaining peace and security in Mizoram. The force reiterated its commitment to curbing illegal activities and ensuring stability and public safety across the region.
