ASMITA Women’s Wushu League concludes

BARAMULLA, Aug 28: The ASMITA Women's Wushu League 2026, organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Wushu Association, concluded here with a grand closing ceremony, witnessing participation of around 400 girls from different parts of the Union Territory.

The athletes showcased skill, discipline, confidence and sportsmanship throughout the competition. KIC Centre Handwara emerged as the Overall Champion, while Baramulla Sports Club secured second position and Shah Hamdan Sports Club finished third.

The closing ceremony was graced by Touseef Raina, Chairman, Global Youth Foundation, as chief guest, while Annu, President, Khaki Association, attended as the distinguished guest. The dignitaries congratulated the athletes, coaches, officials and organizers and appreciated the growing participation of women in Wushu.

Raina appreciated the Jammu & Kashmir Wushu Association for taking the sport to grassroots level and creating opportunities for young girls. He also acknowledged the initiatives of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) and Sports Authority of India (SAI) in promoting women's participation in sports.

The speakers said Wushu not only promotes physical fitness and self-defence but also develops confidence, discipline, courage and leadership among young women.

They highlighted the contribution of J&K's women Wushu athletes, including Ayeera Hassan Chisti, Ansa Hassan Chisti, Abida, Jiya Manhas, Hiranya, Munazah Qazi, Kifa Shah, Sadia Tariq, Pratiba Devi and Dhruvika Devi, who have represented the region at national and international levels.

The Association congratulated all participants, coaches, technical officials and organizers. Special appreciation was extended to Ajaz Hassan and Musharaf Qayoom for their contribution to the successful conduct of the league.
