JAMMU, Mar 1: Asha Kiran Welfare Society celebrated its 6th Foundation Day here at Devak Community hall Janipur Colony today.
Former Union Minister and president Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Ambphalla was the chief guest and Vijay Bhagotra general secretary Old Age Home & Infirm was the guest of honour.
The programme started with Sarasvati Bandana. The achievements for the year 2014-15 including activities and programmes of society of the previous years were presented by Dr Vikrant Sharma, vice president and Dr J P Gupta, chairman.
While addressing the gathering Prof Gupta lauded the role of society and its functioning for the welfare of poor and down trodden people of the colony and its surroundings. He expressed the hope that more people will come forward for this noble cause irrespective of religion, cast and creed. He also thanked society for donation for missionary cause of Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission Hospital Ambphalla.
Vijay Bhagotra in his address said that he would extend his whole hearted cooperation to the society which is doing well for the poor and needy people.
The students of Government Middle School and Government Girls High School, Janipur Colony who stood first ,second and third in their classes from 5th to 9th standards were given the cash prizes.
Mementos were presented for the best teacher award to Vikas Gupta of Activity Higher Secondary School Janipur Colony, Jammu and for the best student award to Anuj Waid also of Janipur Colony who topped all India Company Law and Company Secretary Executive Examination 2014.
Widows pension and sewing machines were also distributed to the poor and deserving ladies during the function.
Ved Chibber president of the Society, Dr Vikrant Sharma, vice president, Jaswant Manhas acting vice president, Kamal Netar, general secretary and others were present in the function.
