Jamshedpur, May 21:
Arunima Sinha today became the first woman in the world to conquer Mt. Everest in prosthetic legs.
The 26-year-old Arunima successfully completed her expedition today at 10.55 am with the tri-colour flying high.
Supported by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation and trained under Bachendri Pal, who was the first Indian woman to achieve the feat, Arunima completed her expedition journey from Kathmandu to the top of the peak in 52 days.
She followed Susen Mahato, who summited Mt. Everest on May 19.
Arunima, a former national-level volleyball player, had lost her right leg after being thrown off a moving train in Bareilly two years ago.
Congratulating Arunima for achieving the rare feat, Bachendri Pal said, “The spirit, mental strength and will power of Arunima have been exemplary which was reflected in her training. She has defied all odds and will be an inspiration for millions throughout the world.” (PTI)
