Army’s 12-week long Martial Arts course gets underway

Srinagar, Nov 2: Army’s Chinar 9 Jawan Club in north Kashmir’s Sumbal area of Bandipora district which in September started a 12 week-long Martial Arts course is underway.
A defence spokesman said the ongoing course has completed eight weeks inspite of regular shutdown calls. “Over 30 enthusiastic students are being imparted with Taekwondo training regularly,” he said.
The spokesman said that the students have learnt the techniques of stretching exercises, basic positioning, basic punching, basic kicks, blocks, half side kick, straight high kick, reverse kick and turning kick. “The aim of the course is to instill self discipline and enable the students in self defence,” he said.
The students are unanimous in acknowledging the positive contribution this course is making in their lives and would want more people to benefit from more such initiatives, the defence spokesman added.
