JAMMU, Jan 29: Army destroyed unexploded mortar shells at village Bhour Jagir in tehsil Akhnoor.
As per defence spokesman Colonel NN Joshi, two bombs of 82mm mortar fired by Pakistan Rangers were found by villagers in village Bhour Jagir. These unexploded bombs were found inside the village in proximity of houses and local population, he added.
He informed that the information was conveyed by the villagers to the Indian Army. On receipt of information, Army’s expert bomb disposal team from the local formation was dispatched to the village.
Colonel Joshi further stated that the team under great risk, dug out these unexploded live bombs from the village and destroyed them at a safe place. The operation was done most swiftly by the disposal team ensuring no loss of life and property or any collateral damage, he added.
Defence spokesman asserted that the Army stands by the people in providing safe surroundings, where the villagers near the LoC can go about their daily chores without fear of loss of life, limb and property. Army units are on look out for such unexploded shells in close vicinity to the villages and would endeavour to diffuse these bombs to obliterate any loss to the locals, he informed.
