ARGI reviews census preparedness in J&K, assures full support for Census 2027

JAMMU, July 7: Additional Registrar General (ARGI), Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, Sunil Kumar today reviewed the progress of Census preparations during his maiden visit to the Directorate of Census Operations, Jammu.

Sunil Kumar was received by Amit Sharma, Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director of Census Operations (DCO), J&K and Ladakh, along with senior officers of the Directorate. The visit commenced with a comprehensive presentation outlining the Directorate's evolution, successful completion of House Listing Operations, major administrative initiatives and the roadmap for the forthcoming phases of Census 2027.

A documentary on the House Listing Operations carried out across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh was also screened, highlighting the scale of the exercise, difficult terrain, digital innovations and coordinated field efforts.

During the review meeting, Amit Sharma presented the Directorate's vision and roadmap for the next phases of Census 2027. Joint CPCO Arun Kumar highlighted major organizational reforms. Deputy CPCO Manmeet Singh Loomba gave a detailed presentation on House Listing Operations, digital data collection, training architecture, media outreach, field monitoring and preparations for the next phase of the Census.

Reviewing the progress, Sunil Kumar observed that the successful completion of House Listing Operations through 100 per cent digital data collection without any major technical difficulties reflected the commitment, professionalism and coordination of the Directorate and district administrations across both Union Territories.

He assured the Directorate of complete support in addressing administrative, financial, infrastructural and manpower-related requirements. He said the headquarters would continue working closely with the Directorate to ensure timely, seamless and successful implementation of the remaining phases of Census 2027.

Kumar described the visit as productive and reiterated the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India's commitment to extending all necessary institutional support for the Census exercise in J&K and Ladakh.
