ANTF Jammu busts inter-state drug syndicate, seizes 750 cough syrup bottles

JAMMU, Sept 1: The Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Jammu has busted an inter-State drug syndicate involved in the transportation and supply of codeine-based cough syrup from Delhi to Jammu, recovering 750 bottles of the narcotic substance.

Officials said acting on specific information, the ANTF registered an FIR number 06/2026 under sections 8, 21, 22 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station ANTF Jammu and launched an investigation.

During the operation, they said, a sleeper bus, RK Holiday (MP07 ZT-7771) travelling from Delhi to Jammu, was intercepted in the Narwal area.

A search of the bus led to the recovery of 750 bottles of Altorex-CD syrup, which had allegedly been concealed in the luggage compartment, officials said.

Accordingly, the bus driver, identified as Swaran Singh, a resident of Bari Brahmana, Samba, and Joginder Singh, a resident of Swankha Morh, Samba, were arrested.

Quoting preliminary investigation, officials said the syndicate was allegedly procuring the narcotic cough syrup from Delhi, transporting it to Jammu and supplying it to local youth at high prices.

Meanwhile, the ANTF is conducting further investigation to identify other members of the syndicate and trace its backward and forward linkages.

More arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
