Amrita wins VCA Chess trophy

JAMMU, Aug 29: Vivek Chess Academy (VCA) organized a special chess competition and felicitating sports personalities for their contributions to sports and sports journalism.

AJKCA president and Commonwealth gold medallist Meenal Gupta, sports journalist Sanjeev Sharma and veteran chess player Atul Gupta, Director Planning and Development Commission, AICF, graced the occasion. VCA Director Vivek Bharti presented mementos to Meenal Gupta and Sanjeev Sharma.

Meenal Gupta, a former VCA trainee and the first woman president of the All J&K Chess Association, was honoured for her contribution to chess development in J&K.

Meenal Gupta presented the title trophy to Open category winner Amrita Gupta, while Surinder Gupta and Ishaan Chowdhary secured silver and bronze. In U-15, Keshav Mahajan won gold, followed by Ruby Kumari and Gaurav Kumar. In U-10, Prajanya Mahajan, Raesha Thothla and Manushree Nischal bagged gold, silver and bronze respectively. Cash prizes and medals were distributed among the winners.
