JAMMU, June 9: The Citizens’ Forum Jammu has appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik and MoS in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh to include Forum members, particularly those with technical background, to the committee, to be constituted by the Chief Secretary of the State, to look into the matter of widening of Amphalla-Janipur Road and shifting of wayside utilities of the road.
The Division Bench of the State High Court has directed Chief Secretary to constitute a committee to take a final decision regarding shifting of utilities on the Janipur-High Court link road and the payment to the Public Development Department (PDD) for making such a shifting possible.
The direction has come recently in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Citizens’ Forum through its president RK Chadha. The forum has requested for inclusion of their members, particularly those with technical background in the committee as was done in the case of a PIL filed by the Forum earlier seeking new facilities and improvement in the existing ones for the passengers and visitors at the Jammu Railway Station.
Expressing serious concern over escalation in the cost of the project, the Forum said, “How funds are frittered, and work denied, a simple case in this PIL has come to fore that at the beginning Rs 90 crores was estimated for widening of the road, but within few months it became Rs 280 crores. Whatever the cost comes, we do not want the funds for Jammu to be wasted”. Chadha said that a committee formed with our members will see the issues taken up at lowest cost and work completed.
