JAMMU, Nov 24: Prolific run-getter for Jammu University team, Ameet Targotra smashed power-packed unbeaten 79 runs, while utility all-rounder Rajesh Verma scalped 4 important wickets to help Jammu University register their consecutive third win, defeating GB Pant University by a huge margin of 131 runs in the 4th All India Vice Chancellor’s T20 Cricket Tourney at University grounds, here today.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Jammu University scored a decent total of 183 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Ameet Targotra played a swashbuckling innings of 79 runs off 59 balls, studded with 9 delectable boundaries, while Prakshit Manhas and Daud Iqbal contributed 29 and 15 runs to the total respectively. Prakshit smashed 5 boundaries in his knock, while Daud hit two. For GB Pant University, Bhagat Singh and Amit Joshi bagged 2 wickets each, while CBS Pandey and Rajesh claimed one each.
In reply, GB Pant University bundled out for a meagre total of 52 runs in 13.1 overs, thus lost the match by a big margin of 131 runs. CBS Pandey was the top scorer with 17 runs, while Bhagat Singh contributed 13 runs to the total. Rajesh Verma was the wrecker-in-chief for Jammu University, who scalped 4 wickets, while Raj Kumar Bakshi, Niranjan Singh and Pawan Singh captured 2 wickets each. Ameet Targotra was adjudged man of the match for his fabulous knock.
Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion and gave away man of the match trophy to Ameet.
In other match, Kashmir University defeated GND University by 9 wickets in an easy contest. Batting first, GND scored 99 runs in 19.2 overs, with Amandeep and Ashwani being the main contributors, scoring 31 and 27 runs respectively. Gh Mohiudin captured 3 wickets for Kashmir University, while Parvez and Samiuulah bagged 2 wickets each.
In reply, Kashmir University chased the target easily in 12.4 overs by losing one wicket to win the match by 9 wickets. Suhail scored magnificent 49 runs with 8 boundaries, while Samiullah contributed valuable 45 runs including 7 hits to the fence. Jastan claimed lone wicket for GND University. Samiullah was declared man of the match for his all-round show.
In another match, MANNU Hyderabad trounced Educational Board Ajmer by 31 runs in an easy contest. Batting first, MANNU Hyderabad sailed on superb 76 runs by Mahesh, scored 156 runs in 20 overs. Saleem, Mohd Yousaf and Naved contributed 18, 17 and 12 runs to the total respectively. Vinod took 3 wickets for Edu Board Ajmer, Harsh took 2, while Vijay and Shailinder claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Education Board Ajmer failed to chase the target and managed to score 125 runs in 19.5 overs, thus lost the match by 31 runs. Vijay was the top scorer with 51 runs, while Rajesh and Shalinder scored 35 and 12 runs respectively. For MANNU Hyderabad, Shaik Mohiddin scalped 4 wickets and Mahesh took 2. Muqueeb also claimed one wicket. Mahesh was adjudged man of the match.
SKUAST Kashmir defeated MDS Ajmer by 6 wickets in another match played today. MDS Ajmer scored a paltry total of 92 runs in 20 overs. Surinder Kumar (16), Bhawar Singh (15), Purgesh (13) and Mukesh (10) were the main contributors. For SKUAST, Ishtiaq, Majeed and Sajad bagged 2 wickets each, while Aquib and Amin claimed one wicket each.
SKUAST Kashmir, in reply chased the required target in just 12.3 overs by losing 4 wickets to win the match by 6 wickets. Gowher smashed quick-fire 60 runs off 31 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes, while Sohail contributed well made 25 runs to the total. Sandeep took 2 wickets for MDS Ajmer, while Bhawar Singh and Umesh claimed one wicket each. Gowher was declared man of the match for brilliant batting display.
Today’s matches were officiated by the panel of experts including BCCI panel umpires Sudhir Singh and Harbinder Singh, Suresh Singh, Sadiq Hussain, Pankaj Sasan, Vijay Dogra, JD Singh, Raman Kumar, Dheeraj and Satpaul.
