Alleged negligent death of 17-yr-old boy sparks protest

KISHTWAR, July 16: The death of a 17-year-old boy due to alleged medical negligence at District Hospital Kishtwar sparked protest by the family members and their kin.
According to the reports, a teenage boy namely Saqib Hussain son of Abdul Gani of Marwah was passing through Tapal Galin this morning when he came under a wall which reportedly collapsed due to continuous rains in the area. With serious head injury, he was rushed to District Hospital Kishtwar, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Alleging that the blood bank incharge of the Hospital refused to provide blood for the injured teenager despite availability, the family members and kin of the deceased boy staged protest against the blood bank incharge. They also alleged that critical care ambulance to shift the injured boy out of Kishtwar for advanced treatment was also not provided by the Hospital due to which he died. The family members also lodged strong protest against CMO Kishtwar and local administration for their failure to provide timely treatment to deceased.

The protest was suspended only after CMO Kishtwar and senior police officers reached the spot and assured to take necessary action against the culprits if any negligence is found by them. Later, after postmortem the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
Former legislator Firdous Tak, who reached the spot, alleged that despite repeated incidents of medical negligence, the authorities have failed to put a system in place to save precious lives.
Meanwhile, Deputy SP Headquarter, Sunny Gupta told Excelsior that an FIR has been registered against the blood bank incharge as well as the owner of the building under whose wall the deceased boy came.
