SRINAGAR, June 11: A self-styled divisional commander of Al-Badar militant outfit was arrested by the police from Sopore area in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
A police spokesman said that during a search operation at Nowhamam-Sopore, an Al-Badr militant Munir Ahmad Bukhari, resident of Nowhamam-Sopore was arrested. Munir was operating under the code names of Sajad Baloch, Hamza, Amir, Ghazi, Sajad and was functioning as self styled divisional commander of Al-Badr outfit in north Kashmir.
The police spokesman said that the militant was wanted in many incidents of terror that include grenade attacks of year 2010 on 22 RR Headquarter, Ganjoo House and police station Sopore. He was operating under the direct command of Yousf Baloch, chief commander of Al-Badar based in Pakistan.
“One AK series rifle, one satellite phone, three AK magazines, 90 bullets and a pouch were recovered from the possession of arrested militant. A case FIR No 72/2012 under section 7/25 Arms Act, 13 ULA (P) Act has been registered in Police Station Tarzu, Sopore,” said the police spokesman.
Meanwhile, a defence spokesman said that 41 Rashtriya Rifles busted an underground militant hideout and recovered war like stores from it. The recoveries include an under barrel grenade launcher, grenades, explosive slabs weighing approximately five kilograms, improvised explosive devices and remote controlled switches.
