Akhnoor village without electricity for 25 days

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 24: Residents of  village Sunail in Akhnoor Sub Division of district Jammu are suffering badly due to power failure for the last nearly 25 days.
The villagers even took up the issue with the concerned AEE, PDD Akhnoor, Executive Engineer (PDD/M&RE) Jammu Mr Jaggi but the issue could not be resolved. They also thronged the office of tehsildar and  even SDM but the issue has remained still unresolved.
The people alleged that electric transformer of 63 KV capacity installed at Sunail, went out of order. It was replaced about a week back by local PDD staff but at the time of installation it got sparked and damaged. It happened twice and the power could not be restored. Villager Manmohan Singh alleged that transformers replaced twice got damaged immediately, raising question on the type of repair work being done at PDD workshops. There should be high level inquiry into the matter. He has sought the intervention of Chief Engineer M&RE and Commissioner/Secretary, Power into the matter.
It is pertinent to mention here that PDD has engaged about 15 private firms for repairing of damaged transformers and Department is seeking one year guarantee while for the repair of transformers in its own (PDD) workshops, there is no such accountability or guarantee, indicating sub-standard work in the departmental work shops.
