AJKPC sends resolution to Modi, Shah for extension of PRIs tenure

JAMMU, Jan 2: Seeking extended tenure for the Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir, All Jammu Kashmir Panchayat Conference today sent copies of the resolution in this regard to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and others.
Anil Sharma, President of AJKPC along with other office bearers of the organization sent off copies of the AJKPC’s recently adopted resolution to Modi, Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha and other members of Parliament of India.
The seven-point resolution was unanimously passed by all the functionaries of the AJKPC in its one day convention held in Jammu on December 22, 2022. It demands extension of the present term of the Panchayats till December 2025 on the argument that these Panchayats could not perform their duties diligently for two years because of Corona pandemic and moreover it would ensure fresh elections of all constituents of PRIs, including Block Development Councils and District Development Councils within days as envisaged in the 73rd amendment of Indian Constitution.
While interacting with the media persons after dispatching the copies of resolution through registered post from Head Post Office Gandhinagar Jammu, Anil Sharma informed that besides other demands, the resolution is very clear that no Panchayat member of J & K would accept any preponement of elections of existing Panchayats.
He said the copies of these resolutions have also been sent to all important national leaders of political parties and they have been apprised about the aspirations and demands of the elected PRI’s of J & K.
In the resolution, AJKPC has also sought relief for the families of all martyred elected members of PRIs who had laid down their lives for India’s sovereignty during the period 2011 to till date. AJKPC leader also hinted that a delegation of J&K PRI members may also soon leave for Delhi to press for their demands.
Other leaders of AJKPC, who were present on the occasion, include A K Pandita, Des Raj Bhagat, Jatinder Singh, Manoj Pandita. Gh Hassan Reshi, O N Razdan, Brijnath Bhat, Sanjay Bhat and Shahnawaz Malik.
