HYDERABAD, Sep 25: The Congress party has said that AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s challenge to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to contest from Hyderabad in the next Lok Sabha election is ridiculous.
“The campaign launched by the Congress party in the Old City of Hyderabad has started sending shockwaves among AIMIM leaders, and the fear of a possible backlash in the upcoming election was quite visible in the speech of Asaduddin Owaisi.
When Congress started appealing to the people of Hyderabad to question AIMIM leaders on their performance, Owaisi became apprehensive and is now resorting to old tactics of provoking people on religious lines,” said Hyderabad DCC President Sameer Waliullah in a media statement today.
Sameer Waliullah stated that Owaisi has attempted to blame the Congress party for the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992. “Everyone knows who demolished the mosque and how the AIMIM is strengthening the same communal elements across the country.
Why did Asaduddin Owaisi forget about the Babri Masjid when he joined the Congress-led UPA after the 2004 elections? Why did he always strive to have pictures with Rahul Gandhi when the Congress party was in power until 2014? Everyone knows how Owaisi incites communal sentiments to avoid scrutiny on development,” he alleged.
The DCC President also criticized Owaisi for accusing the Congress party of the demolition of mosques in Secretariat here. “AIMIM’s chief must have gone astray as he is leveling baseless allegations.
Two mosques in the Secretariat were demolished by the BRS government in July 2020. While the Congress leaders attempted to file an FIR and also approached the court, it was Asaduddin Owaisi who defended the demolition of mosques.
He even led a delegation of some religious leaders to support Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s decision.
Sameer Waliullah mentioned that by challenging Rahul Gandhi, Asaduddin Owaisi has indirectly endorsed the accusation that AIMIM, BJP, and BRS are allies with a common agenda of attacking the Congress party.
He added that the Congress party has entered the Old City of Hyderabad with a clear agenda for development. (UNI)
